This is an original Chinese ink painting featuring autumn chrysanthemums composed within a carefully drawn circular format on traditional rice paper.
Unlike conventional rectangular compositions, the artist first outlined a soft pencil circle and developed the entire floral arrangement inside this round structure. The circular form creates visual balance and completeness, a compositional approach often associated with harmony and unity in traditional Chinese aesthetics.
Two chrysanthemums bloom prominently within the circle, one in vibrant pink and the other in softer pale tones. The layered petals are rendered with controlled brushwork, while the dark ink leaves provide depth and contrast. The interplay between delicate color and bold ink establishes both refinement and structural clarity.
In traditional Chinese painting, chrysanthemums are associated with endurance and seasonal resilience, especially as they bloom in late autumn when other flowers fade. Rather than symbolic exaggeration, this artwork emphasizes compositional discipline and botanical observation within a contained circular space.
The left side bears the artist’s handwritten inscription, including the title “秋菊” (Autumn Chrysanthemum), a lunar year reference, signature, and red seal mark.
Size: 13 inches diameter (34 cm)
